Deendayal Port Authority Partners with ICCT to Reduce Emissions
The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has teamed up with ICCT India to curb greenhouse gas emissions from port activities. The collaboration focuses on cleaner fuels and port operations to support India's maritime shift towards a low-carbon economy, aligning with national green energy objectives.
The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla has strategically aligned with the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) to address the pressing issue of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution stemming from port and shipping activities. Official sources indicate that this partnership is set to foster research and generate practical solutions aimed at minimizing emissions, particularly across areas like shipping, fuel, port logistics, and in-port equipment operations.
The newly-formed collaboration is poised to bolster sustainability initiatives within maritime operations, thereby significantly enhancing environmental benchmarks within trade activities. Earlier this year, in March, the DPA, galvanized by the Seva Sankalp Resolution adopted by the Union Cabinet, reaffirmed its commitment to the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision. The proclamation was solemnly delivered by top officials, including Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh and Deputy Chairman Nilabhra Dasgupta.
Furthermore, the DPA of Kandla is advancing with preparatory work for India's pioneering 150 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) e-Methanol production facility, in conjunction with Assam Petrochemicals Limited (APL). This step underscores the authority's unwavering focus on fostering clean fuel initiatives and aligning with decarbonization and net-zero objectives. An official site visit took place in February, underscoring this commitment.
