Defamation Case Against BJP MLA Karnail Singh: Court Orders Reconsideration

In a significant legal development, the Rouse Avenue court has nullified the earlier cognisance in the defamation complaint filed by former Delhi Minister Satyender Jain against BJP MLA Karnail Singh. The complaint arose following allegedly defamatory statements made by Singh during a televised interview in January 2025.

Special Judge Jitendra Singh highlighted procedural discrepancies by the Trial Court, asserting that statutory exceptions must be considered before proceeding to trial. The case now returns to the Magistrate to re-evaluate these exceptions and determine whether sufficient grounds exist to continue with the case, in alignment with the appellate observations.

The contentious complaint cites statements claiming substantial assets held by Jain, including allegations of gold and land, linking him to corruption. Advocate Vinod Dahiya, representing Singh, contends these accusations were based on legitimate sources, while Jain's counsel, Advocate Rajat Bhardwaj, refutes the claims, citing defamation and deceit.
