Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge sharply condemned the central government on Friday for the significant increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, labeling it a failure in managing inflation and price stability. The hike of Rs 993 for a 19-kg cylinder marks the steepest rise to date, attributed to escalating global energy costs amid the West Asia conflict.
Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's previous remarks on price control, expressing disbelief at continued public support for Modi's policies despite economic strains. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar echoed these sentiments, accusing the BJP-led Center of worsening the financial burden post-election, impacting hotels and daily wage earners.
The Congress government in Karnataka offered welfare schemes to mitigate these impacts, yet concerns persist about the adverse effects on small businesses and sectors relying on gas for profitability. Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda emphasized the disruptions faced by auto drivers and small vendors due to the increased LPG costs.
