In a rare airport disruption, an IndiGo flight bound for Raipur had to abort take-off from Lucknow airport due to monkeys on the runway. The incident occurred shortly after 9 am when the pilots noticed the animals and quickly called off the take-off roll, ensuring passenger safety.
The IndiGo flight, carrying around 150 passengers, had used a significant amount of fuel during the attempted take-off, forcing it to return for refueling, which subsequently delayed the flight by about an hour. This delay also had a knock-on effect on the departure timings for other flights at the airport.
Airport wildlife management deployed standard procedures to clear the runway, allowing operations to resume smoothly. Experts suggest while such incidents may result in excess fuel consumption and schedule setbacks, quick response averts potential hazards, demonstrating the importance of vigilant aviation management.
