New Commander Takes Charge of Army's Strategic XV Corps in Kashmir

Lieutenant General Balbir Singh has assumed command of the Army's Srinagar-based strategic XV Corps, succeeding Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, now Quarter Master General at Army headquarters. Singh, an experienced officer in counter-insurgency operations, previously led the Victor Force in south and central Kashmir.
During his tenure, tragic incidents occurred, including the killing of Col Manpreet Singh and others by terrorists in Kokernag. Singh, a decorated officer with over 34 years of service, paid tribute at the Chinar War Memorial, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with civil administration to ensure peace in the region.
Lt Gen Srivastava's leadership marked significant operations, including OP SINDOOR & OP MAHADEV, and successful initiatives such as the Amarnath Yatra 2025. His farewell highlighted gratitude towards the Chinar Corps, regional police, and the people of Kashmir for their cooperation in maintaining security and community harmony.
