Delhi Tops in Road Accident Fatalities Among Metros
The National Crime Records Bureau's 2024 report highlights Delhi as the leading city for road accident deaths among 19 major cities, recording 1,658 fatalities. Of the total 2,000 cases, 1,521 were hit-and-run. Nationally, road accident negligence accounted for 1,69,493 cases with a crime rate at 12.1 per lakh population.

The national capital leads in road accident fatalities among 19 metropolitan cities, according to the 2024 data by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Recording 1,658 deaths in 2,000 cases, Delhi reported the highest death toll due to road accidents, marking a crime rate of seven per lakh population.
Of these incidents, 1,521 were hit-and-run, while 479 were attributed to other types of accidents. Including deaths from rail and medical negligence, Delhi's toll rose to 1,833, with a crime rate of 11.2 per lakh population.
Bengaluru reported 877 cases and Chennai 533, with Jaipur showing the highest crime rate of 26.0 per lakh population. Across the 19 cities, 7,947 road accident deaths were recorded. Nationally, road accident negligence cases rose to 1,69,493 in 2024.
