Union Minister Ramdas Athawale demonstrated his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's austerity measures by opting to travel via the Metro train in Mumbai, from BKC to Vidhan Bhavan stations, on Tuesday. He endorsed the use of public transport to save fuel, aligning with the PM’s comprehensive economic strategy amid the West Asia crisis.

Addressing reporters after his journey, Athawale stated that politicizing the Prime Minister's appeal was unnecessary. Modi’s recommendations, including reducing petrol and diesel consumption and advocating alternatives like Metro use, carpooling, and increased reliance on electric vehicles, are seen as pivotal for economic resilience.

Athawale acknowledged suggestions from politicians like Sharad Pawar, advocating direct discussions with Modi. Responding to criticisms regarding the PM’s foreign trip, he clarified that the visit intends to bolster trade ties, not tourism.
