Maruti Suzuki's Green Shift: Rail-Based Dispatch Revolution

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the nation's largest carmaker, is steering towards a greener future by committing Rs 1,372 crore to build a dedicated green logistics infrastructure. This move aims to boost the share of rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35 percent by 2030-31, from the current 26.5 percent share.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki has surpassed 30 lakh cumulative vehicle dispatches through railways, showcasing a significant increase in rail logistics over the years. Since 2014, rail-based dispatches have grown ninefold, a testament to the company's strategy to integrate railways into their outbound logistics.

According to MSIL Managing Director & CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, the funds will develop in-plant railway sidings at Hansalpur and Manesar plants, set up rail yards at logistics hubs, and procure specialized automotive rakes. Looking ahead, the company plans further expansion at the upcoming Kharkhoda facility, a step that promises to reduce carbon emissions and road congestion while conserving fuel.
