India's Aquaculture Triumph: EU Inclusion Secures Export Future
India has been added to the EU's revised list for ongoing aquaculture exports. This move ensures uninterrupted shipments, reflecting confidence in India's regulatory and food safety standards. The EU constitutes a significant market for Indian seafood, with substantial growth in recent years due to compliance efforts.
India is now on the European Union's updated draft list for continuous aquaculture product exports to the bloc, a strategic development ensuring seamless shipments beyond September this year.
The EU's revised draft, published on May 12, highlights India's compliance with the European Commission's regulations, particularly regarding antimicrobial use in food-producing animals. Initially, India was not included in the EU's October 2024 implementing regulation for exports intended for human consumption in the EU from September 2026.
This inclusion is a significant win for India's seafood sector, showcasing the EU's confidence in India’s regulatory frameworks and food safety standards. Currently, the EU is a leading market for Indian seafood, with farmed shrimp being a major component of exports. The move acknowledges India’s diligent efforts in regulatory compliance, coordinated by the Department of Commerce, Marine Products Export Development Authority, and Export Inspection Council.
