Government Approves Strategic Sale of IMPCL to Skymap

The government has approved strategic sale of Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation Ltd (IMPCL) to Skymap Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd for over Rs 121 crore, the finance ministry said on Tuesday.

Among two financial bids, Skymap Pharmaceuticals emerged as the highest bidder above the reserve price, showcasing the significant interest in IMPCL’s strategic sale as per the Ministry's statement.

IMPCL, under the Ministry of Ayush, specializes in Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines. The strategic disinvestment began in 2017, seeking a strategic buyer in a two-stage bidding process.

This sale, approved by the Alternative Mechanism, highlights coordinated governmental efforts involving multiple ministers, ensuring a transparent and competitive transaction.

All qualified bidders completed due diligence with security clearance and submitted their proposals by early 2026, confirming a thorough and meticulous process.

As part of a broader fiscal strategy, the government has raised substantial revenue through disinvestment, intending to significantly boost fiscal year targets.
