Mohan Charan Majhi expressed confidence in the scheduled 2029 inauguration of the JSW integrated steel plant near Paradip, marking a significant stride in Odisha's industrial landscape. The venture, planned for an initial investment of Rs 65,000 crore, is expected to scale up to Rs 1,00,000 crore in subsequent phases.
A groundbreaking ceremony in Dhinkia celebrated the commencement of the 13.2 million metric tonnes per annum plant by JSW Utkal Steel Limited. Majhi pledged government support for the project, which aims to boost local employment, support MSMEs, and attract investment to Odisha.
This steel project includes a 900 MW power plant, a cement grinding unit, and a dedicated jetty for enhanced shipping near Paradip Port. Majhi likened Paradip's potential development to Gujarat's port-led industrial ecosystem, envisioning a future hub for diversified industries.
JSW's Sajjan Jindal conveyed his gratitude and commitment to Odisha, highlighting the strategic benefits of its coastal site. Opposition voices, however, raised concerns over economic claims and past administration initiatives attributed to this progress.
