Brazil's Ambitious Plans for Additional Gripen Fighter Jets
Brazil is considering purchasing 20 more Gripen E and F fighter jets from Sweden's Saab, as confirmed by Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson. The acquisition would see the aircraft manufactured in Brazil, building on a 2014 agreement. Brazil's move underscores its growing defense capabilities.
In a significant development for Brazil's defense sector, the country is looking to acquire an additional 20 Gripen model E and F fighter jets from Sweden's Saab. This was revealed by Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson during a joint press conference in Stockholm with Brazilian Defence Minister Jose Mucio.
The potential purchase follows the establishment of a production line in Brazil, a collaboration between Embraer SA and Saab, cemented by a 2014 agreement when Brazil initially chose to buy 36 Gripen jets. The first deliveries have already taken place, with the remaining jets expected by 2027.
This move highlights Brazil's intention to bolster its military capabilities further, showcasing an ongoing commitment to expanding its defense assets through strategic partnerships.
