Argentina's River Dredging Contract Awarded Amid Controversy
Argentina's Economy Ministry has recommended Jan De Nul and Servimagnus for a major dredging contract in the country, rejecting a rival bid from DEME and declaring DTA Engenharia ineligible. Concerns over Chinese influence had been raised, but contracts were awarded based on technical evaluations and tariffs.
Argentina's Economy Ministry has taken a decisive step by recommending Belgian dredging company Jan De Nul and its local partner, Servimagnus, for a major dredging project on the Parana River, which handles 80% of the country's trade.
The recommendation came amidst warnings from U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Brian Mast regarding potential Chinese influence in the bidding process, although Jan De Nul and Servimagnus have denied any ties to China.
The process involved a technical evaluation where Jan De Nul-Servimagnus scored 66.20 points, outperforming fellow Belgian competitor DEME, which scored 42.14. A final decision will follow after a seven-day period for formal challenges, potentially resolving a deadlock on crucial waterway construction projects.
