The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) is supporting four South African companies in the forestry and wood manufacturing sector at the WoodEX for Africa and Deck and Flooring Expo, being held from 9 to 11 June 2026 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The supported companies — CMAS Trading and Projects, Seltech Cupboards, Roofbrands and Truss Master — are using the exhibition to showcase their products, connect with potential buyers and explore new business opportunities in domestic and international markets.
The initiative forms part of the department's broader efforts to strengthen South Africa's manufacturing base, support business growth and create employment opportunities through industrial development.
Expo Creates New Opportunities for Forestry and Timber Businesses
WoodEX for Africa is regarded as one of the region's leading trade exhibitions for machinery, timber products, forestry supplies, tools and related technologies. The event attracts manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and industry professionals from across southern Africa and beyond.
For participating companies, the exhibition offers direct access to potential customers, investors and business partners. It also provides an opportunity to stay informed about emerging technologies, changing market demands and new developments shaping the forestry and timber industries.
According to the dtic, supporting businesses at events such as WoodEX helps local manufacturers expand their market reach while strengthening industry value chains. Increased exposure can open doors to new contracts, partnerships and export opportunities that contribute to long-term business growth.
The four participating companies are expected to use the platform to demonstrate their capabilities, promote their products and establish relationships that can help expand their commercial footprint in the sector.
Focus on Manufacturing Growth and Job Creation
The department said its support aligns with key industrial policy goals that include promoting industrialisation, encouraging value-added production and improving the competitiveness of South African businesses. Particular attention is being given to Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), which play an important role in economic growth and employment creation.
By helping companies access trade exhibitions and industry networks, the government hopes to strengthen local manufacturing capacity while creating sustainable jobs across the forestry and furniture value chain.
Visitors to the dtic exhibition stand will also have the opportunity to engage directly with department officials and learn about available support programmes, incentives and initiatives designed to assist businesses operating in the forestry sector.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to policies that encourage investment, localisation, export growth and industrial expansion. Officials believe a stronger forestry and furniture manufacturing industry can contribute significantly to economic development while improving the global competitiveness of South African products.
As the sector continues to evolve, platforms such as WoodEX for Africa are expected to play an important role in connecting businesses with new markets, technologies and opportunities that support long-term growth.
