Emirates' Boeing 777X Delays and Industry Engine Struggles

Dubai's Emirates airline anticipates receiving its first Boeing 777X aircraft by June of the next year, amid ongoing delays and unresolved engine issues with Rolls-Royce. The challenges have caused Emirates to delay ordering the competing Airbus A350-1000, citing concerns about engine durability.

Emirates, the largest buyer of wide-body jets globally, has expressed repeated dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay of Boeing's largest model and the endurance of Airbus engines. The airline's president, Tim Clark, highlighted these concerns during an industry conference, noting that certification delays have particularly plagued the GE-powered 777X plane.

At the heart of the matter is a broader industry controversy where airlines are aggressively challenging engine manufacturers over exorbitant prices and delivery setbacks. Clark has voiced frustration over the inability of engine makers to meet demand, a situation he terms as causing planes to remain unused.
