The European Commission announced on Friday a €540 million financial aid package aimed at assisting farmers across the European Union who are struggling with the escalating costs of fertilisers. These price hikes have been linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran.

European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, highlighted the EU's commitment to address the pressing issue. "Today, we are delivering on our commitment to support farmers facing soaring fertiliser costs," he stated.

Member States will have the opportunity to enhance this package with their own national funds, potentially raising the total available relief to €1.5 billion. With the current exchange rate, €540 million is approximately $625.4 million.
