Romania will promote the quick signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) between the European Union (EU) and Vietnam, Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu on Wednesday told a visiting high-ranking official delegation from Vietnam.

Teodor Melescanu expressed his appreciation for the dynamism of the political dialogue in recent years and highlighted the Romanian side's interest in strengthening economic relations, increasing and diversifying trade between the two countries, in his meeting with visiting Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, also special envoy of the prime minister of Vietnam. The Romanian minister stressed the commitment of Romania which is holding the presidency of the EU Council, to sign the EU-Vietnam FTA and IPA as soon as possible.

According to a communique of the ministry, it was also the main subject to assess the state of the EU-Vietnam dialogue and the steps to be taken to sign the two bilateral agreements during the talks between Bui Thanh Son and Romanian State Secretary for Bilateral and Global Affairs, Monica Gheorghita.

In July 2018, the EU and Vietnam agreed on final texts for the bilateral FTA and IPA, once translated, the Commission will send all EU language versions to the Council and the European Parliament, according to the official website of European Commission, as reported by Xinhua.
