'Personal safety a major issue for mothers this elections'

With the general elections half way through, majority of mothers have the intention to vote and feel their personal safety in the country is a major issue, which is not highlighted in the manifestos of any political party, according to a study. About 96 percent mothers in the country plan to vote in the ongoing general elections, according to a study by Momspresso, global user-generated content platform for mothers.

It revealed that 70 percent of Indian moms are not influenced by politicians but rather by issues like personal safety, kids safety among others, which is not being addressed by any political party. The study was conducted pan-India among 1,317 mothers, including 33.7 percent working women and 66.3 percent homemakers.

"We strongly felt that the real issues that impact the lives of mothers have been underrepresented in all the manifestos and conversations around us. We believe that these concerns and aspirations of mothers will now reach the right audience among the powers that be," Momspresso co-founder and CEO Vishal Gupta said. Corruption is a big cause of concern for more than four out 10 mothers in Hyderabad while 22 percent of mothers in the metro cities are influenced by media and 28 percent living in non-metro cities are influenced by their friends and family while voting, it said.

The study also found that more than 80 per cent mother in the country seek more schools for children with learning abilities About 84 percent mothers want more day-care centres in all major companies or in the big office areas of the cities. Meanwhile, inflation is a growing concern for nine out of 10 working mothers.
