Waitomo Group confirms opening of Upper Hutt Fuel Stop

As the region’s only low-cost operator, Waitomo will bring some much-needed competition and choice to the capital, where motorists have been paying some of New Zealand’s highest fuel prices.

As part of their national expansion plans, Hamilton-based fuel supplier Waitomo will enter the Wellington region next week, with the opening of their Upper Hutt Fuel Stop. A second Wellington site in Tinakori will open by mid-July.

As the region’s only low-cost operator, Waitomo will bring some much-needed competition and choice to the capital, where motorists have been paying some of New Zealand’s highest fuel prices.

The unmanned 24-hour Fuel Stop, located at 1066 Fergusson Drive, will be officially opened on Tuesday 14th May, at 12 pm, by Upper Hutt Mayor Wayne Guppy.

Local customers will benefit from Waitomo’s everyday low price for Unleaded 91, Premium 95, and Diesel. GoClear, a diesel exhaust fluid, is also available to diesel vehicle users. As with all new Waitomo Fuel Stops, the pumps on site are fitted with vapour recovery technology, a system not widely used in New Zealand that sucks petrol vapour that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere back into the pump.

Waitomo Group Managing Director Jimmy Ormsby said Waitomo is stoked to be entering the Wellington market.

“Fueling Kiwis across the country is what we do, but the Waitomo team is especially pumped about this opening.

“It’s been a long time coming, but the wait will be worth it. Expect major price disruption when our Waitomo price hits town next week.”

To mark this milestone for the business, kaumatua from Ōrongomai Marae will bless the site at 11 am, followed by the opening at 12 pm. The winner of Waitomo’s competition - where one lucky Facebook entrant will win $1,000 fuel - will be the first to fuel up.

Guests will be welcomed on site with free coffee and hot food available.

Established in Te Kuiti more than 70 years ago by Desmond Ormsby, the 100 per cent Kiwi, family-owned and operated company now has more than 60 Fuel Stops in the North Island, and the first South Island site will open later this year.
