The government of Tanzania has taken a decision to control random importation of dairy products. This unsystematic or disorganized entry of those materials has led to the establishment of 15 new dairy industries in the east African country.
The Acting Registrar of the Tanzania Dairies Board, Sophia Mlote opined that the 15 new dairy industries have a total capacity of processing about 90,400 litres of milk a day. "The new dairy industries will largely contribute to the creation of job opportunities in the country," Mlote told a news conference in Tanzania’s capital, Dodoma.
She also said the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries unveiled a special operation 2018 aimed at controlling haphazard importation of dairy products which suffocated the local market. Debating budget estimates for the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries recently, Members of Parliament commended the ministry for controlling imports of the dairy products.
They said the move enabled local producers of dairy products to breathe a sigh of relief after they were assured of a reliable market for their products.
