Volvo UK recall: Fire risk prompts massive recall; engine problem suspected

Volvo has recalled nearly 70,000 Volvo cars in the United Kingdom over a fire risk related to an engine problem. It is part of a global recall of more than half a million diesel vehicles that suffer from a fault.

A plastic part of the engine can "melt and deform" and can catch fire in "extreme cases", the carmaker has said. The issue can affect some cars made in the past five years. Volvo said it is contacting affected customers.

The carmaker has confirmed that in "the most extreme cases" the fault, involving the engine manifold, had caused a fire. Volvo has said that there had been no reports of injuries related to the fault.
