UK electricity firm Solarplicity collapses; thousands of customers might suffer

UK electricity firm Solarplicity has ceased trading, according to official sources. The energy supplier had around 7,500 domestic customers and less than 500 business customers which will now have to move to other suppliers.
UK energy regulator Ofgem has, however, said that it will protect the customers and has assured that prepayment meters can be topped up as normal. The outstanding credit balances of domestic customers will be protected, the regulator added.
The regulator has advised customers not to switch to another supplier until a new one is appointed by Ofgem and has assured that they can rely on their energy supply.
It is to be noted that customers that have been contacted by Toto will be assisted by the company itself while Ofgem will manage the transfer of other customers. Once transferred to a new supplier, customers can choose a tariff plan according to their needs and can also switch to a different supplier without any exit fees.
