Empowering Educators: Five-Day Disaster Risk Reduction Training Kicks Off in Kashmir

A five-day training programme commenced in Kashmir to equip academicians with the skills and knowledge for enhanced disaster risk reduction strategies. A significant five-day capacity building and training programme started in Kashmir on Monday, aiming to equip academicians from Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh with crucial disaster risk reduction strategies.

Conducted by Indian Universities' Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (IUINDRR), National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in collaboration with the University of Kashmir, the programme targets educators, offering them the tools necessary to foster resilient communities. This essential training addresses natural hazards, community vulnerabilities, and multi-hazard risk assessments, providing a comprehensive policy framework.

Senior figures such as Department Head Pervez Ahmed, NIDM Consultant Preeti Soni, and NIDM Executive Director Rajendra Ratnoo underscored the importance of the training. The initiative seeks to not only inform but also engage participants in ethical communication during disasters, fellowship opportunities, and broader academic impacts on disaster risk reduction in the region.
