Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology formalized a partnership with NVIDIA on Friday to establish the Thapar School of Advanced AI & Data Science. The memorandum of understanding was signed by R R Vederah, Chairman, Board of Governors at Thapar University, and Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director - Asia South at NVIDIA.
The new AI and Data Science school will be located on the TIET campus in Patiala, Punjab. Padmakumar Nair, Director of TIET, expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to bridge the AI expertise gap and foster cutting-edge research and innovation.
TIET plans to set up a dedicated data center using NVIDIA's DGX systems. By the 2024-2025 academic year, the institute aims to support an AI undergraduate degree program, offer AI courses across various disciplines, provide technical training for faculty, and foster an AI startup ecosystem.
