Rejected Proposal: Manusmriti in DU's Law Curriculum

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that a proposal to include Manusmriti in Delhi University's law course was rejected by the Vice Chancellor. Pradhan affirmed the government's commitment to upholding the Constitution, addressing Congress's allegation that the move was part of a broader agenda to alter it.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Friday that a proposal to incorporate Manusmriti into a Delhi University law course was rejected by the Vice Chancellor, denying any endorsement of such a plan.

Pradhan disclosed to reporters that he had conversed with the Delhi University Vice Chancellor on Thursday upon receiving information about this proposal.

“Some information came to us that ‘Manusmriti’ would be part of the law faculty course. I spoke with the Vice Chancellor, who assured me that while some faculty members had proposed changes to the jurisprudence chapter, the academic council did not endorse this. The Vice Chancellor rejected the proposal,” Pradhan said.

He reiterated the government's commitment to uphold the Constitution and denied any intention of including controversial scripts.

The Congress had earlier criticized the government, claiming that this proposal reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi's alleged strategy to subtly alter the Constitution, aligning with the RSS's long-term goals.
