Indore Administration Seals Coaching Institutes over Safety Issues Post-Delhi Tragedy

In response to a recent tragedy in Delhi where three students drowned in a flooded basement, officials in Indore have sealed 13 coaching institutes for lacking safety measures. The move follows a survey and highlights concerns over inadequate safety provisions in educational facilities operating from basements.

In the wake of a tragic incident in Delhi, the Indore administration on Tuesday sealed 13 coaching institutes operating from basements due to inadequate safety measures, an official confirmed.

The action follows an incident where three students, who were preparing for the civil services examination, drowned in the flooded basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Delhi, leading to a city-wide survey of such facilities.

"We have sealed 13 study institutes running from basements, focusing on student safety. These include coaching institutes and libraries," stated Ghanshyam Dhangar, the sub-divisional magistrate. He added that the affected premises were cramped, had a single entry-exit, and lacked essential fire safety equipment.

Four of the institutes had plywood walls and ceilings, which pose significant risks to student safety, Dhangar noted. A report recommending strict actions against the operators of these institutes will be submitted to the administration.

The crackdown has also sparked criticism from students. "Why did the government wake up only after the death of three students in the Delhi incident? This attitude shows negligence. Officials should regularly inspect study institutes," said Shubham, a civil services aspirant.
