Debate Sparks over Education Policy and Textbook Revisions

During a debate on the Education Ministry's demands for grants, TMC MP Pratima Mondal criticized the government for removing chapters on significant Muslim rulers and omitting references to the 2002 Gujarat riots from the NCERT curriculum. She argued that these revisions threaten children's intellectual integrity and foundational educational principles.

Mondal noted the 2018 declaration by then-Minister of State for Education, Satya Pal Singh, who claimed Darwin's theory of evolution was scientifically wrong, leading to its removal from the Class 9 and 10 syllabi by 2022-23. She pointed out that millions of students now lack formal education on a fundamental biological theory.

She accused the government of reducing budgetary allocations for education, leading to intellectual stagnation and political manipulation. Meanwhile, SP MP Shiv Pal Patel criticized the government's job denial to SCs, STs, and OBCs, while TDP MP M Sribharat praised the new education policy and NDA's achievements in expanding educational institutions. JD(U) MP Sunil Kumar demanded additional Kendra and Navodaya Vidyalayas for his constituency.
