In a significant development, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to the state government concerning an incident at a government higher secondary school in Indore. The incident involves a teacher allegedly strip-searching at least five girl students in the washroom to find a mobile phone.
Justices Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Duppala Venkata Ramana of the Indore bench took up a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by social activist Chinmoy Mishra, demanding an investigation and compliance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court has sought a detailed report from the state within one week.
During the court hearing, advocate Abhinav Dhanodkar argued that POCSO Act provisions had not been adhered to, even though parents had lodged a police complaint on August 2. The MP High Court has scheduled the next hearing for August 17, underlining the urgency of this matter, which has already led to the teacher's removal from the school.
