Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has formally requested Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to rectify the discrepancies in the Odisha University (Amendment) Act 2020, which was enacted by the previous BJD government.
Pradhan claims that the amendments are in conflict with the provisions of the UGC Act and compromise the autonomy and interests of educational institutions in the state. The minister urged that the Act be amended to safeguard the autonomy of educational institutions and maintain the highest standards of education in Odisha.
The previous BJD government had enacted extensive amendments to the original Odisha University Act of 1989, which Pradhan argues should be reconsidered due to their inconsistency with UGC regulations and judicial directives set by the Supreme Court.
