As the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations begin today, Higher Education and Training Minister, Dr Nobuhle Pamela Nkabane, has called on matriculants to take advantage of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) for their post-school education funding. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2024, leaving 55 days for eligible students to apply.

"We urge all students to submit their NSFAS applications promptly to secure financial support for the next chapter of their educational journey," Nkabane stated.

In extending her best wishes to the 880,000 candidates, including 727,121 full-time and 155,215 part-time students, Nkabane highlighted the importance of determination and confidence as they tackle their final exams, beginning with language papers, English and Afrikaans Paper 3.

Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, also assured the public that the Department of Basic Education is fully prepared to administer the exams smoothly across South Africa.

Exploring Post-School Education Opportunities

Dr. Nkabane emphasized the variety of educational pathways available to matriculants within the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) system. These include:

Community Education and Training (CET) colleges: Offering skills development and general education for students seeking to continue learning.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges: Focused on providing practical skills and technical knowledge for employment or entrepreneurship.

Higher Education institutions: Universities and other higher education providers offering degrees and diploma programs.

"The PSET system aligns with the National Skills Development Strategy 2030, supporting skills development priorities to drive a skills revolution in South Africa. I encourage all matriculants to explore the available opportunities and pursue their ambitions," Nkabane added.
