In a recent administrative shift, Prof Amit Patra, the current director of IIT BHU Varanasi, has been appointed as the acting director of IIT Kharagpur. The announcement came from the institute on Thursday.
Prof Patra, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, where he completed his B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD, will hold this position until a permanent director is appointed. He takes over the role from V K Tewari, whose term concluded on December 31, 2024.
A seasoned academic, Patra's illustrious career includes a post-doctoral fellowship in Germany, significant contributions as a faculty member, and various administrative roles at IIT Kharagpur. His extensive background and leadership experience are expected to guide the institute through this transitional period.
