In a vehement critique of the National Education Policy (NEP), Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Saturday his outright refusal to implement it, even if the Centre offers a substantial financial package of Rs 10,000 crore to the state.
Expressing his concerns, Stalin argued that the opposition to NEP stems not just from the imposition of Hindi but from various provisions that threaten the future educational prospects of students and undermine the social justice system.
Highlighting specific issues, Stalin pointed out the introduction of a new screening test for arts and science college admissions and the policy’s allowance for students to discontinue their studies, which he equated to dissuading them from education.
