Odisha's Tribal Students Protest Against Inhumane Conditions

Over 100 tribal students from a state-run school in Odisha trekked 20 km overnight to protest in Baripada due to poor living conditions. They reported substandard hostel food and physical assault. The district collector listened to them, promising appropriate action and arranged their return journey.

In a striking display of resilience, over 100 tribal students from a residential school in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district walked 20 km overnight to reach Baripada. Their protest highlighted harsh living conditions they were subjected to, including poor-quality food and alleged physical abuse by teachers.

The Basipitha Government High School students, enrolled in classes 8 and 9, voiced their grievances in front of district authorities, capturing the attention of District Collector Hema Kanta Say. Responding promptly to their march, the collector assured the students that their concerns would be investigated thoroughly.

District authorities have acknowledged the legitimacy of the students' demands, as confirmed by Additional District Magistrate Netrananda Mallick. As an immediate measure, the administration arranged for the students' safe return to their school by bus, promising to address their issues swiftly.
