Telangana Mandates Telugu in School Curriculum from 2025

The Telangana government has mandated the teaching of Telugu as a compulsory subject in all schools, including CBSE, ICSE, and IB boards, starting from the 2025-26 academic year. The decision, backed by the 2018 act, aims to ensure that students across various boards learn Telugu, enhancing cultural integration.

The Telangana government has taken a significant step to enforce the teaching of Telugu as a compulsory subject in schools from the 2025-26 academic year. This mandate applies to students from grades 1 to 10 in CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other affiliated boards within the state.

Originally introduced in the Telangana (Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Telugu in Schools) Act of 2018, the regulation was previously not fully implemented by the former BRS government. The current administration led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has prioritized its enforcement.

The initiative includes the use of the 'Simple Telugu' textbook 'Vennela' for grades 9 and 10, catering to students whose mother tongue is not Telugu. This effort is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote cultural and linguistic integration among students from diverse states and backgrounds.
