Dr Shaija had engaged in contentious social media discourse, allegedly praising Godse's assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. This incident led to police questioning and her eventual anticipatory bail.

As tensions rise, the Director of NIT-Calicut has directed that Dr Shaija work with the current Dean, Dr Priya Chandran, for a seamless transition. The appointment is scheduled for a two-year period, with political parties organizing demonstrations against the move.
