The Chancellor of Meghalaya's University of Science and Technology is embroiled in a series of legal troubles. Recently arrested for allegedly facilitating unfair means in examinations, he appeared before the Sonitpur Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court. Haque had earlier been granted bail by the Gauhati High Court in connection with cases filed in Sribhumi district, while restraining his arrest in other cases. Despite this, Sonitpur police detained him over another case, marking a continuation of his legal battles.

In a wider controversy, Haque has faced allegations regarding fraudulent credentials and contributions to flooding in Guwahati. The Assam Chief Minister has been vocal about Haque's alleged misconduct, calling him a "big fraud," with predictions of a prolonged jail term.
