The government of Zambia has taken an initiative to send 500 teachers to Madagascar. An economist based in country's second largest city Kitwe extols the government's initiative saying that the agreement to deploy 500 teachers to Madagascar will help the country increase its foreign exchange earnings base.

Matthews Muyembe, the economist said in a conversation with Zanis that this initiative would assist in earning forex as those teachers will be investing back home. "Government spends a lot of money on training teachers unlike other disciplines hence it was imperative that the state undertake such commercial activities and bilateral agreements that will plough back what was spend on the education sector," he said.

According to him, the move was an opportunity for the teachers who will be deployed to gain experience and foreign exposure for them to come back with new lessons which could be implemented in Zambia when they return. He believes this would enhance regional integration and create employment for teachers that have not been recruited by the government.

Last week, Zambia's President Edgar Lungu and his Madagascar's counterpart Andry Rajoelina had jointly taken the decision during their bilateral meeting. The government is putting everything in place to make the deployment of the teachers possible
