According to an Executive Council decision dated August 19, Prof Singh, from the Department of Anthropology, was appointed to the role shortly before the crucial elections. Singh promised to conduct the elections peacefully in coordination with student organizations, ensuring no campus defacement.

Prof Singh has been a longstanding member of the proctor's office, serving as deputy proctor since 2013 and becoming joint proctor in 2020.
