A freshers' party at a private college in Maharashtra's Latur district ended in tragedy when a student died following an alleged assault, officials revealed.

The incident took place on October 8 during the event at a renowned institution in Latur's MIDC area. It began with a minor dispute while dancing, which escalated into violence. Victim Suraj Shinde argued with a group of students who then attacked him with sticks and fists, according to police reports.

Shinde was critically injured and, despite being rushed to a local hospital, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. In response, the police filed a murder case based on a college-goer's complaint, leading to the arrest of six students, with charges under various Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections. Sub-Inspector Suresh Pogulwar is leading the investigation.
