In a significant move to bolster education, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma released Rs 130 crore as part of the Umbrella Post Matric Scholarship scheme. This initiative, benefiting nearly 70,000 students, underscores the state's commitment to education despite awaiting funds from the Centre.

The decision to advance the scholarship from state resources was driven by the need to alleviate student hardships, Sangma explained at a ceremony accompanied by Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui and other officials. He assured students of reforms addressing longstanding issues for educators, set to roll out from the next fiscal year.

Highlighting a strategic vision for regional growth, Sangma emphasized youth-centric programs as pivotal to Meghalaya's trajectory. Plans are in place to develop the state's economy through to 2047, positioning youth as central figures in driving progress.
