The Meghalaya government has initiated a significant shift in educational policy by approving a community-integrated skill learning program for students from classes 6 to 10. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma after a cabinet meeting, aims to integrate practical skills directly into the existing health and physical education curriculum.

This educational overhaul will see students learning skills reflective of their family and community backgrounds, such as agricultural or traditional skills. Chief Minister Sangma emphasized that the program is designed not to limit students to their parents' professions but to help them appreciate and understand local livelihoods while gaining practical skills for the future.

Additionally, the cabinet approved a measure allowing private candidates to register for secondary school leaving certificate examinations, streamlining the process for those who previously dropped out. The cabinet also made appointments for various awards and positions, reflecting wider governance and development plans in Meghalaya.
