Kerala's Leader of Opposition, V D Satheesan, has laid out an ambitious educational agenda for the United Democratic Front (UDF) aimed at revolutionizing the state's higher education systems. Speaking at a Higher Education Conclave, he emphasized the need for universities to gain more autonomy and adopt a new-generation curriculum that aligns with global job market demands.
Key proposals include setting up an independent Student Academic Election Commission to ensure fair student elections, creating academic leadership positions, and establishing job watchtowers to monitor and adapt to global employment trends. Additionally, Artificial Intelligence departments and a Centre for AI Research of international standards are on the agenda, alongside measures to promote scientific temper through new institutions.
Satheesan also highlighted plans for academic tourism to attract foreign students and enhance student mobility. Surveys would be conducted to analyze student interests and employment trends. With a focus on secularism and scientific consciousness, the UDF aims to make Kerala a global education hub through these reformative strategies.
