The Global AI for Learning Alliance (GAILA) took center stage at the recent India AI Impact Summit 2026, signaling a breakthrough collaboration among AI firms, governments, and education leaders to boost AI-enabled learning in low- and middle-income countries.
As an initiative spearheaded by UNICEF and partners with support from the Gates Foundation, GAILA promises to overcome challenges such as scarce infrastructure and high costs, barriers that have hindered AI development in these regions. The alliance aims to foster a unified platform to coordinate efforts and translate innovative dialogues into tangible outcomes.
GAILA is actively working on an Industry Compact seeking extensive commitments to improve accessibility, affordability, and safety in AI systems. Stakeholders from diverse sectors gathered to align strategies with national priorities, striving for a cohesive approach to improve learning outcomes universally.
