Delhi Traffic Police has launched a comprehensive crackdown on wrong-side driving, a major cause of fatal accidents in the city. From January 3 to February 9, officers registered 182 FIRs with the New Delhi Range recording the most violations. This aggressive measure is seen as a substantial move towards road safety.
Officials have reclassified wrong-side driving from a minor to a serious offense, implementing electronic surveillance and deploying AI-based cameras for real-time monitoring. This operation aims to deter dangerous driving practices, spotlighting cases under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with the Motor Vehicles Act.
The drive follows several recent deadly incidents, including a tragic collision in Dwarka that raised public awareness about speeding and distracted driving risks. Authorities emphasize the necessity of public compliance with traffic rules, urging motorists to drive responsibly for collective road safety.
