The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has arrested nine individuals associated with coaching institutes over a Rs 37.20-crore scam tied to a Delhi government scheme, officials said. The case, related to the 'Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana,' was initiated on a complaint from the Department for the Welfare of SCs, STs, and OBCs about substantial irregularities by empanelled coaching institutes.
The scheme, launched in 2017, intended to support Scheduled Caste students with free competitive exam coaching. It later expanded to include STs, OBCs, and Economically Weaker Sections. Allegations of misconduct include the submission of duplicate student lists and the improper routing of funds. Investigations revealed that some institutes diverted students to local tuition centers, contravening the guidelines.
In several instances, stipends meant for students were not disbursed. The investigation also suggested forged records to inflate financial claims. Officials revealed that regulatory checks were inadequate, and they are continuing to probe the extent of the alleged fraud. The arrested parties are in judicial custody as further details unfold.
