Maharashtra Tribal Development Minister Ashok Uike has described his department as a ''large family'' rather than a mere government entity limited to files and decisions. Speaking at an event in Thane district on Thursday, he said the department's success hinges on ''family communication, trust, and affection'' among its members. The programme was aimed at enhancing the quality of tribal 'Ashram' schools in the state. Ashram schools in Maharashtra are government-supported residential schools primarily meant for tribal children living in remote and forested areas. ''To truly succeed, we must set aside ego and prioritise student welfare,'' the Minister said. He praised the role of women officers, comparing their financial discipline to a matriarch managing a family's money matters. ''Just as a household is safe with women, our department's planning is thriving under their leadership,'' he noted. Uike also described his department as a ''large family'' rather than merely a government wing that deals with files and decisions. He directed officials to ensure all educational facilities are ready before schools reopen on June 15.
