Around 25 aspirants for the Uttar Pradesh BEd Joint Entrance Examination were injured when a concrete slab collapsed, causing them to fall into a sewage drain outside a Kanpur exam center on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at HN Mishra PG College near a crowded photocopy shop. Many candidates had gathered there to make last-minute document copies. Eyewitnesses stated the slab gave way due to overcrowding, with four individuals suffering minor injuries.
Residents and fellow examinees helped rescue those who fell, and although no serious injuries occurred, the mishap triggered demonstrations accusing the local authorities of negligence. Affected families, like Shalu Shukla's, expressed frustration over the poor state of infrastructure near such a significant exam center.
The exam took place as planned across 19 centers, despite the interruption. Police said they maintained heightened security to ensure the exam proceeded smoothly.
