After the release of Season 1, the LGBTQ teen drama Heartstopper on Netflix quickly gained popularity and resonated with a global audience. As a result, Netflix officially renewed Heartstopper for Seasons 2 and 3. With anticipation for the upcoming seasons continuing to grow, Alice Oseman, the creator of the series whose comics inspired the show, has revealed that Heartstopper Season 2 on Netflix will explore Isaac's sexuality.
Heartstopper is a series that centers on the lives of two teenagers, Nick (played by Kit Connor) and Charlie (played by Joe Locke), who form an unexpected friendship that gradually evolves into a romantic relationship. The show follows their journey as they navigate the complexities of adolescence, coming out and self-discovery.
In an interview with Attitude, Oseman stated, "Asexuality will be discussed on TV in a big way. I'm excited. I hope it'll change the world."
Oseman continued to explain that "The 'A' stands for asexual [ace] or aromantic [aro]. Those words mean little-to-no sexual attraction or little-to-no romantic attraction. This confuses a lot of people because, for most people, they're the same. But for aro/ace people, they can differ."
Tobie Donovan, who plays Isaac in the coming-of-age series, expressed hopes that his character's exploration of asexuality "doesn't feel like a lesson."
"I hope when it happens in Heartstopper, it doesn’t feel like a lesson. You know Isaac, you care about him, and now you’re going to learn something new about him."
Netflix has completed the filming of Heartstopper Season 2, but there is still no confirmed release date. Fans of the show are eagerly anticipating the premiere, which is expected to happen sometime this year. While there has been no official announcement of a specific release date, it is speculated that the second season could air in the fourth quarter of 2023. Despite this speculation, viewers will have to wait for further updates from Netflix to confirm the actual release date of Heartstopper Season 2. Heartstopper Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
