The Maharajganj district administration, in a unique bid to promote ecological awareness during the Lok Sabha elections, distributed saplings to more than 1,500 voters at a specially set up 'green polling booth'.
Led by District Magistrate Anunaya Jha, the initiative aimed to counter the severe heatwaves experienced during the election period. 'We faced a lot of problems due to the heat, and this was our way to address environmental concerns and stress the importance of ecological balance,' Jha said.
The district administration partnered with the local forest department to construct the booth, where they provided voters with plants like Tulsi, mangoes, drumstick, and amla. The forest department also showcased informative materials about the district's forest cover and the Sohagi-Barwa tiger reserve. Plans are in place to replicate this initiative in future elections, aimed at encouraging maximum voter participation and environmental responsibility.
