The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to install blue plaques at 1,300 heritage sites across the national capital, officials confirmed. This initiative aims to raise awareness about these heritage locations, often overlooked due to inadequate signage.
Drawing inspiration from London's blue plaque programme, which started in 1866, the MCD's project will commemorate key historical sites, including schools, hospitals, and police stations. 'Our goal is to complete this work within the next 15-20 days,' an MCD official told PTI.
The plaques serve as signboards to attract heritage enthusiasts and inform the public about historically significant spots. The first phase has seen 55 sites fitted with plaques, with further installations planned for the remaining 1,300 sites under MCD’s jurisdiction. The project also honours notable figures, much like London's plaques commemorating personalities from Winston Churchill to Jawaharlal Nehru.
